If you’ve been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and struggle with CPAP, you’re not alone. Many patients find it uncomfortable or unsustainable long-term.
According to published white papers and clinical guidelines, the only true alternative to CPAP for treating moderate to severe OSA is a surgical procedure called Maxillomandibular Advancement (MMA).
What is MMA?
MMA is a surgical procedure that moves both the upper and lower jaws forward to permanently enlarge the airway and relieve obstruction. It’s considered the most effective long-term treatment for OSA — with higher success and cure rates than any other surgical or non-surgical option.
Because MMA changes the position of the jaws, it is often done in conjunction with orthodontic treatment to ensure your bite (occlusion) remains functional and stable after surgery. Braces or aligners are typically used before and/or after the procedure to align the teeth properly for both airway and bite health.
